Soloist Auditions for The Snowman Tour

We are delighted to offer children aged 7-14 the exciting chance to sing Walking in the Air solo during The Snowman Tour performances in Buxton and Derby this year.

This is a wonderful and unique opportunity for any young musician to sing alongside a professional orchestra and in front of hundreds of people.

Auditions

We're holding two sets of auditions for the two Derbyshire venues The Snowman Tour is coming to this December.

For Buxton performances

• Audition date: Wednesday 14 October, 4.00-7.00pm
  At Harpur Hill Primary School, Trent Ave, Buxton SK17 9LP
• For performances at The Octagon, Buxton:
  Wednesday 2 December: 1.30pm and 6.30pm

For Derby Performances

• Audition date: Saturday 17 October, 9.00am–12.30pm
  At Derby Music Centre, Beaufort Primary School, Hampshire Rd, Derby DE21 6BT
• For performances at Derby Reach:
  Thursday 3 December: 1.30pm and 6.30pm
  Friday 4 December: 10.45am and 1.30pm

Making your application

A member of our team will be in touch to arrange a time slot shortly after your application has been approved. We give preference to those who live or are in school in Derby and Derbyshire. Applications close at the end of Sunday 11 October. 

• Ages: We accept applications for children who will be aged 7-14 on 1 December 2026.

Preparation for your audition

The score and tracks are available below to help you prepare for your audition. We suggest practising your performance with the vocal track first, but move to the instrumental track without vocals as this will be what we expect in an audition.

It is OK to use music or words in the audition but we expect auditionees to look up and show us some facial expression when singing the solo, as if in a real performance.
