What is a School Music Development Plan?

In June 2022 the Department for Education published their policy paper The power of music to change lives: a national plan for music education.

The document sets out the government's vision for music education and how this can be achieved through partnerships with schools, music hubs, the music and creative sector, and others.

Within the National Plan is the recommendation that all schools should have a School Music Development Plan in place at the start of the 2023/24 school year, and a summary document published by 2024/25.

Both these documents should also have been shared with their local Music Hub who can then support the school in the delivery of their plan.
