Musical Rainbows

A project for KS1 pupils with 10 weekly lessons of 40 minutes, delivered by a music specialist

Musical RainbowsMusical Rainbows is a programme of Classroom Instrumental Learning designed especially for Key Stage 1 pupils and is a natural progression from our Musical Gems and Musical Explorers programmes.

Pupils have the opportunity to learn how to play tuned percussion instruments including chime bars, glockenspiels and handbells, as well as participate in singing songs, composing music and learn how to understand simple notation.

The children have absolutely loved learning how to play new instruments. They have had a great time learning songs [and] they could recall these with passion and enjoyment, [including] everyone. We could not recommend this enough to any school.

A typical project includes:

  • Musicianship and instrumental skills
Key musical concepts such as pulse, rhythm, tempo, pitch and dynamics are introduced to children through songs, rhymes and a whole class sets of instruments.
  • Confidence and self-esteem
Pupils are taught within a normal classroom setting, encouraging the growth of self-confidence as they learn alongside each other and their teachers. Performances are arranged to give parents the opportunity to share in children's successes.
  • Composing music
Pupils are given a stimulus from a story book and guided through how to compose music based on their feelings and thoughts.
  • Listening skills and attention
Auditory discrimination, memory and sequencing is developed by tuning into sounds, playing and hearing a number of different instruments.

How much does Musical Rainbows cost?

The cost is £520 per programme of 10 weeks. This includes a class set of instruments, with adaptive instruments where available.
