MEHEM UpRising
Derbyshire Music Hub forms part of the Music Education Hubs East Midlands (MEHEM) consortium. Within this partnership, Youth Music-funded MEHEM UpRising focuses on developing and delivering inclusive music education for young people who are disabled, neurodivergent, or have additional learning needs.
Since 2020, UpRising has trained over 900 teachers, established an inclusive choir, and launched an award-winning resource platform. Their pioneering projects and specialised curriculum guidance continue to successfully unite disabled and non-disabled young musicians across the region.

A comprehensive resource for everyone making music in inclusive settings – six sections of resources created in response to requests from instrumental tutors and classroom teachers, focussing on areas of practice that are often underserved elsewhere.
Our resources are grounded in the Social Model of Disability. This model emphasises the imperative to build all aspects of the musical experience around the needs, interests, and abilities of individual learners.
