Important information about attending City & County Youth Wind Band (CCYWB) rehearsals and courses

We're looking forward to seeing you in the autumn term! We've listed everything we think you need to know before coming, but if you have any questions, scroll down to the bottom to see how to get in touch with us.

Rehearsal morning

  • When and where is the rehearsal?
    Sunday 28 September 2025, 9.00am-1.00pm at County Hall, Smedley Street Matlock DE4 3AG – Open in Google Maps.
  • Where can I park?
    There is limited temporary parking on Smedley Street for drop offs, or you can park at County Hall a little further down the hill off Bank Street. From there you can walk up to County Hall by followig signs for the Reception – Open in Google Maps.
  • Can I stay at County Hall during the morning?
    Unfortunately, we cannot host parents at County Hall during the rehearsal morning.
  • Are there any refreshments?
    We do not provide refreshments other than access to water. If your child needs anything, we suggest they bring it with them. 
  • Does my child need to prepare or bring anything?
    Only themselves, their instruments and anything they may personally need. You may wish to wear warm clothing in case the heating is not at full power straight away. You can also buy a band concert polo shirt for £10 (please bring cash).

The October course and concert

  • When and where is the course?
    Saturday 26 – Wednesday 29 October 2025 at Whitemoor Lakes Centre, nr. Lichfield
    Open in Google Maps.
  • When to arrive
    Please aim to arrive from 4.00pm, with rehearsals starting at 4.30pm.
  • What to bring
    Your instrument, a music stand (labeled), a pencil for rehearsals, enough clothes for the duration of the course (including warm clothes in case it's cold), something to sleep in, toiletries, towel, concert clothes and any personal items or medications that are needed.
  • Concert clothes
    Black trousers and shoes with wind band polo shirts. New members can get a band polo on the day of the concert (£10).
  • Concert
    Wednesday 29 October at Whitemoor Lakes Centre.

    Links for tickets will be available closer to the date.

Answers to common questions

  • Can parents stay and watch some of the course?
    Unfortunately, we cannot host parents at the course other than during check in.
  • Are there any refreshments outside of meals on residential courses?
    There will be basic refreshments available to buy. Water and hot drinks will be provided.
  • Does anything need to be prepared in advance?
    Unless you are sent repertoire in advance specifically, participants do not need to prepare anything before attending. 
  • Can over 18s drink alcohol / smoke?
    Smoking and drinking is not allowed on the residential site at all. 
  • Can my child bring a friend?
    Unfortunately not for this course, but they are welcome to apply for an audition for the next course. 
  • How do we get tickets to the concert?
    We will be in touch with a private link to buy tickets online nearer the time.

Payments

  • How do I make an online payment?
    Please do this using Derbyshire County Council's payment service. This link is in your confirmation email too. 
  • Can I pay on arrival?
    Unfortunately, we cannot accept cash or card payments when the course starts.
  • I think something has gone wrong with my payment, what do I do?
