Beginner level

  • Reception to Y2 : Wednesday early evenings
    Y3–Y4
     : Wednesday early evenings
The emphasis at the beginner level is on fun, developing a love for music, and sharing the joy in singing, dancing and acting and creating short pieces of work for performance. A Kodály inspired methodology underpins the youngest members' introduction to singing and music making.

Intermediate ability

  • Y5–Y6 : Tuesday early evenings
    Y7–Y9 : Tuesday early evenings
At the intermediate level, students are encouraged to think more about the finished product, and are encouraged to take ownership of their work. The level of discipline is increased as students start to take on solo work and perform more advanced pieces of theatre.

More advanced ability

  • Y10+ : Monday evenings
Seniors work towards full-scale performances either in our own theatre or at other, larger local venues. Regular opportunities to take part in large-scale musicals and concerts form part of the year with a broad range of musical styles being performed. Singing is in four-part harmony with great attention given to establishing a solid technique.
  • Seniors generally perform a fully-staged musical with live musicians, a Christmas choral concert with brass band, and a musical theatre showcase offering solo and small ensemble opportunities as well as choreographed chorus numbers.

Musicianship

  • Musicianship classes : Thursday early evenings
Using musical theatre repertoire, Musicianship classes help students to read and interpret written music, as well as developing intonation, inner-hearing and general understanding of music. These sessions are particularly useful for students who intend to take ABRSM Grade 5 theory or want to improve their own personal understanding of music. They are not dry theory sessions, rather a practical, achievable way of improving as a musician.
